Turkish kofte (köfte) is one of those comforting homemade dishes that every Turkish mom has mastered. It’s a staple in Turkish cuisine, found everywhere—from street food stalls to family kitchens and even high-end restaurants. There are hundreds of kofte varieties across Turkey, each with its own unique twist, but this is the classic homemade version that many grew up with. It’s simple, delicious, and packed with flavor!
About recipe;

What is Kofte?
The word “köfte” comes from Persian and means “beaten meat.” Unlike traditional round meatballs, it is typically shaped into flattened patties or oval forms, making them perfect for grilling or pan-frying.
What makes the recipe special is its texture and seasoning—the right mix of minced meat, breadcrumbs, and spices creates a juicy, flavorful bite every time.
And historically, Swedish meatballs (köttbullar) actually trace their origins back to Turkish kofte. I’m not going to tell you the whole story—go ahead and Google it!

How to Serve?
In Turkey, it is part of a classic trio: KOFTE, PİYAZ (white bean salad), and AYRAN(a salty yogurt drink). Many restaurants specialize in just these three items, and for a good reason—they complement each other perfectly!
Another popular way to enjoy, with Turkish rice (pilav) or pasta, especially for kids. And of course, you can never go wrong with crispy French fries on the side. If you’re looking for a lighter option, a fresh salad and grilled vegetables make a fantastic pairing.
What You Need for recipe?

Minced meat — A mix of beef and lamb works best, and meat fat helps keep it juicy and best.
Breadcrumbs — Traditionally, we use stale bread soaked in water and squeezed out. But breadcrumb works perfectly but don’t use panko.
Onion & garlic — Finely grated for extra flavor.
Spices — Salt, black pepper, chili flakes (or paprika), and cumin.
Optional: Chopped fresh parsley for an extra burst of freshness.
How to make kofte?

Start by grating the onion and squeezing out the excess juice. Then, add the minced garlic, ground meat, breadcrumbs, and all the spices.
Using your hands, knead the mixture for at least 2-3 minutes until well combined. Let it rest for 10 minutes, then shape the it.

Take a scoop of the meat mixture and roll it between your hands, just like making a regular meatball. Then, press it gently to shape it into an oval patty.
Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven.
Alternatively, you can fry them in a pan. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Cook the kofte for about 1 minute on each side. Before removing the pan, cut one open to check if the inside is still pink. If needed, cook for an additional minute.

This classic kofte recipe is a true family favorite. Whether you’re making it for a quick weekday dinner or a weekend barbecue, it’s sure to be a hit. Enjoy!
